Britain is a constitutional monarchy and the head of the state is the Queen Elizabeth II. The official language is naturally English, the currency is pound sterling divided into 100 cents. The United Kingdom consists of many islands. The biggest ones are Great Britain and Ireland (the nothern part belongs to the UK but the southern is the Republic of Ireland).  Great Britain is divided into England, Scotland and Wales. The smaller islands include the Isle of Wight, the Isle of Man with its special language called manx, the Hebrides, the Orkneys, the Shetlands and the Channel Islands (=Normandské ostrovy). The language spoken here is French. The island of Great Britain can be roughly divided into the lowland area and the highland area. The lowland is situated in England which means the south-easrt coast of Great Britain. The highlands are mostly in Wales and Scotland. In the movie Trainspotting I could see how the highlands look. The highest mountains are Ben Nevis in Scotland (1 342 m), Snowdon in North Wales (1 085 m) and Scaffel pike in England (978 m). The longest rivers are the Severn and the Thames in England and the Clyde in Scotland. Also the lakes in the Lake District and in Scotland are well known, e.g. Lake Windermere and Loch Ness. Britain has mostly the mild climate with maritime influence. The UK is well-known for its unpleasant rainy weather. The heaviest rains are in the mountain areas. The coldest months in the year are January and Fbruary with the average temperature of 4°C. The capital and also the biggest city in Britain is London. Other big cities are e.g. Manchaster, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Cardiff.

PLACES OF INTEREST
At first I would like to mention the capital London. There are two cities in the centre of London: the City of london and the City of Westminster.
In the City of London we can find e.g. the Tower of London. It was built by William the Conqueror. It was not only the royal palace but also a prison. The guarders are called Beefeaters. The worthseeing area is also the City of Westminster with Big Ben. It is the bell of the clock tower of the Houses of Parliament. Many English kings and queens have been crowned and buried in Westminster Abbey. Tourists like to visit also Buckingham Palace which is the London home of the Queen of England. London has also many parks, e.g. Hyde Park with famous Speaker's Corner.

Sherlock Holmes Museum, Tate Gallery, Picadilly Circus

Other interesting places in Britain are e.g. Edinburgh in Scotland. To me it's famous from the movies Trainspotting and Acid House. if i had possibility, I would like to visit also Stonehenge and Stratford-on Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare.
